Shaiman Hairspray is a musical based on the 1988 John Waters film, Hairspray. It premiered on Broadway in 2002 and has since been produced in numerous professional and community theaters around the world. The show was composed by Marc Shaiman, with lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. The story follows the teenage girl Tracy Turnblad as she pursues her dream of becoming a dancer on a local TV show in the 1960s and fights against racial segregation in Baltimore.
